JBL Creature speakers not working with iMac Core Duo

I've just set up an iMac Core Duo and plugged in some JBL Creature speakers, but the sound won't go through them. I've restarted the machine and I've checked System Preferences.

I've noticed that the plug doesn't appear to want to go all the way into the socket either, although it does seem to be in as far as possible.

Any ideas?

I have Creatures and they work fine. Although, the other day I unplugged them to move my desk and when I plugged them back in they didn't wok. Turns out the plugs to the left and right speakers weren't in far enough even though it looked like they were. Just a thought.

Turns out I was putting it in the wrong socket. I saw "optical" so my first reaction was to avoid it. Had a quick look at the manual and saw the icon for the other socket with the words 'Audio' and 'Port'. If I'd slowed down a little I would have noticed the words "Lind-In" in between too! Duh. Thanks.
