I had the same issue, too.
All hints failed.
But finally I found a way to fix it. It's a bit time consuming but it works (at least for me).
0: close iTunes
1. ensure that you have the following files "iTunes Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl"
2. backup both (just in case something fails)
3. delete "iTunes Library.xml"
4. start iTunes
5. ensure that XML file will be created (preferences -> advanced -> "Share iTunes XML libary with other applications"
6. close iTunes
7. Check that a new "iTunes Library.xml" has been created
8. now delete "iTunes Library.itl"
9. start iTunes - will now start without libary
10. go to "file" -> "media libary" -> "Import playlist" and select "iTunes Library.xml"
11. iTunes will recreate the libary but this might take a while
12. run ITLU ... should work now
BTW:I'm using iTunes 12.6.0.100 and ITLU still works fine.
Cheers!
Thanks! This worked perfectly on the latest version of iTunes as of 6/1/17
From within iTunes do the following:
- click on iTunes Store
- click on Purchased
-select Not In My Library at the top of the screen
- download all content that is not in your library
Unfortunately, ITLU is no longer functional as of iTunes 11.
See here: http://www.filesaveas.com/news/2012/12/itunes-library-updater-killed-by-itunes-1 1.html
For me, this basically renders iTunes defective (I wish ITLU's functionality had been part of iTunes anyway). I have been unable to find a comprable alternative. If anyone can recommend one...
I have had it work up until today (May 31), always keeping iTunes current. I do hope it will work another day but in the meantime, I can suggest http://albumbrowser.klarita.net/itfw.html – the freeware version does what I need it to do.
This error occurs when you have music residing in the cloud in queue for download to your library. It is set to a type that iTLU does not recognize due to it's age.
From within iTunes do the following:
- click on iTunes Store
- click on Purchased
-select Not In My Library at the top of the screen
- download all content that is not in your library
Alternate fix:
Select Deauthorize This Computer... from the Store main menu
Added 12/9/14
iTunes Version: 12.0.1.26
