Restart your mac.
If the lockfile is still there after that, leave it alone. Lockfiles are managed by the OS, not the user.
I can't get Jawbone updater to work because I keep getting a message that says a stale locked file had failed to be removed.
I can't find where the file is kept.
I'm not familiar with Jawbone, but do you still get the message after shutting down the system and restarting?
it is old but i found this- maybe you need to update jawbone?

Check the System Preferences again under Accounts. Choose your account and then check the startup items. You've probably got one in there that is looking for an item which no longer exists.
Did that. Everytime I try to update Jawbone it says "failed to remove stale lock file" Can't find the file to get rid of it.
you opened system preferences, and went to accounts and selected your account and then opened the start up items and deleted all the jawbones?
yes
was there one or more there?
Try using Console to see if it gives you a clue as to the problem file.
Click on Spotlight in the top right of your screen. Type 'console' and hit return.
Click 'All messages' in Console's sidepanel, and then 'Clear Display above in the Taskbar.
Leave Console open and recreate the problem. Have a look in Console window for the error message.
that is really cool! I will try to remember that..
I know the name of the file /users/gtatcs/.jbapps-gtatcs
I just can't find it on my computer to remove it.
