Extended warranty // TS4088

Does anyone else feel that this warranty should be available from the date of purchase of Lion, rather than when one bought the MBP? Since Apple did not, at the time when we purchased Lion, that there might be a GPU/64-bit compatibility issue?

I'm now one month passed the warranty period, and I only discovered TS4088 about 2 weeks or so ago. :-/

Luckily, I don't use the Mac for anything that requires the nVidia GPU, and turning off "Automatic graphics switching" seems to work tenously.

Still, Apple sold me duff wares.

Well, I phoned them here in Norway; the representative said that because I was outside the two year extended period I was not eligble for a free GPU replacement.

I am quite aware that Lion isn't the problem, it's the GPU daughterboard; but the problem reared its ugly head after I installed Lion; Snow Leopard was crash free (and 32-bit; perhaps this was why?) you see..

I'd like to see that 4 year reference, especially if that is an official Apple statement; that would be grand!

I would call Apple back and ask them about the "Apple will provide further extensions to this program as needed" portion of the tech note. Hopefully someone will jump in here that may have had it fixed during the four-year time frame. I know that I've read about it on a number of discussions.

I think.

You can always start up Lion in 32-bit mode and see if that helps the matter at all - see this tech note - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3773.

I'll scrounge around and do some searching and see if I can find anything about the four-year deal (it may just be my imagination, you know).

My bad - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 - that was on 2008 models. I would still ask about the "Apple will provide extensions..." part and reference this note on the 2008 models.

I'd just be polite but persistent. If you'd purchased AppleCare, then, of course, they would have to replace it. It's to late now, but I always buy AppleCare and always suggest that others do as well (particularly with notebooks).

One can but hope. :-/

As I said above, with "Automatic graphics switching" turned off, it works tenuously. When I use Mission Control, however, it's like playing Russian Roulette. This just in:

FYI, the warranty program has been extended from 2 to 3 years for this issue, and although I was not notified by Apple of this, my machine has been repaired (motherboard replacement) for free here in Norway.

A side note: Whereas I was not able to communicate with my Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) prior to this repair, I am now able to do so. Fluke?
