Converted Video to MP4, upload to iPod - no sound

I know this has been a common theme, but I haven't found a definite answer yet.

I put on my iTunes loads of music videos from my CD singles, then converted them to iPod from the Advanced dropdown menu in iTunes. This took over a day! So they are all now in MP4 format.

Then I uploaded them all to my 60gb 5th generation iPod without checking them. When I came to playing them on my iPod, the video quality was perfect, but no sound. I then went back to iTunes to check them out and the converted videos in iTunes were silent too.

So what do I do to make them work? I dont mind buying quicktime 7 or whatever it is, a bit sceptical (and afraid) of using anything else. But any advice welcome, many thanks!

Big question, how were they converted from the CD? Did you use a program like DVD Author and convert the MPEGs? If so please read:

IPOD Plays Video But No Audio when Converting With Quick Time Pro:

Quick Time: Using MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 Files:

You will need a program to convert MPEgs to play on your IPOD. In other words a conversion program that can "Split" the MPEG (Video/Audio) stream (Demux/Demulitiplex) and then re-join or (Remux/Multiplex) the audio/video back into a file that will play on your IPOD.

actually, i just checked my iTunes. all the videos that were originally in QuickTime converted ok and are playing with sound in both iTunes and on my iPod. I think all I need to do then is convert the rest of the video files (all in windows media player format or "movieclip") using some program.

Is this right?

Would quicktime 7 pro do that, or is that a waste of money?

Thanks, as always.

In reply to your helpful post Barbara Hall, I simply went through My Computer to the CD in the D: or E: drive, right clicked the drive and used Explore to see all the files. The I copied the Video file into a separate folder and did Add File to Library in iTunes.

The videos all work fine in iTunes, but after converting them for iPod using the Advanced option in iTunes, the sound went (except for those videos that were originally in QuickTime format as mentioned above).

Thanks for the help!
