What can be done if the restore does not work?

My iPod is a 30GB my OS is MAC OS X version 10.5.7. When the iPod is connected to the MAC the display on it

He iPod shows a folder which is not accessible and www.apple.com/support/iPod. That's all I get. The iPod simply just stopped working one day while in the middle of playing songs.

If Restore is complete, without any error, and you still get the folder icon.

Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem but helps in troubleshooting.
