Q: Upgrading to Aperture 3

I've previously upgraded my iMac and Macbook to aperture 3, via a disc. Now I want to add it to my Macbook air but don't have the previous serial number to load it. Help please.

On your iMac and MacBook you should see the Aperture 3 serial number in the "Abou"t panel in the main menu bar:  Aperture > About Aperture.

What do you mean by "previous serial number"?  Is your current Aperture version an Upgrade from Aperture 2? Then you do need indeed the Aperture 2 serial number as well. If you no longer have it, you will need to contact Apple with a proof of purchase, see:

Thanks Leonie. I was afraid that is what would be needed. I've had all versions, upgrading as I go. On the Mac and Macbook Aperture was already installed so, from memery, I didn't require the old serial number. Now with the "air" I thought it would be nice to load it there as well.

OK I guess I'll just stick with iPhoto. As I can't remeber when or where I bought the Aperture3 upgrade. Annoying but there you go. Just remeber to purchase everything through the Apps store and all will be well.

If you have an upgrade to Aperture 2, then you probably bought an upgrade key online - perhaps you still have the email with the key somewhere. If I remember correctly, the Apple Store version only covered two installations anyway - a laptop and a desktop version; so a third seat on your MBA would not have been covered by your Licence. The App Store licence is less restrictive, you can install the software on any mac you control (for private use).

But anyway, if you have Aperture 3.3. or later and iPhoto 9.3.x you can open your Aperture library in iPhoto on your MBA,  that may suffice, till we someday - finally have Aperture 4
