It is not a traditional packaged SSD as you know it. The individual modules/chips are glued to a custom board and are unreplaceable, in case your intention is to replace it with a bigger model. Earned Apple the worst rating for unserviceability and a brouhaha when they dropped momentarily out of EPEAT serviceability. Enjoy, courtesy of iFixIt.com, where you can find the rest of this computer p.o.r.n:
This is a Retina Model, correct? I'm referring to the "old fasion" MBPs with SuperDrives.
Oops...
It occupies the same spot as the HDD and uses the same mounting hardware. Your User's Manual has instructions on how to change, as this and the RAM are considered user-serviceable components. Or visit IFixIt.com for a pictorial DIY, they've already put up the Mid-2012 models, Retina and not.

The brand is only known to Apple. More then likely they place a Apple sticker on the front. It will also include special firmware labeling it AS Apple as only with Apple Branded SSDs does TRIM support get turned on automatically.
So in all aspects it IS a Apple Brand.
Hmmm, where did I read that it is a Samsung 830 with custom firmware?

Then it is like all other Apple products. Made by someone else and the Apple name placed on it.
System Information reports mine as an Apple SSD SM512E. Mid-2012 15-inch, 2.6Ghz, 8 Gbs RAM, widescreen Anti-Glare.

Apple uses two brands of SSDs in their Macbook Pros.
SM Prefix = Samsung
TS Prefix = Toshiba
