I've received an error message Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to Time Capsule, the backup disk image /Volumes/Date/....MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use. Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix it?

Thanks now it is backing up my entire system all over again 15 GB but at least it seems to be working, thanks again!
Hmm, well that is a bit alarming. Did it bring you a type of pop up that asked you if you wanted to start a new backup? How many pre-existing backups (roughly) did you have before?
Well I had backups for about 6 months, but I am beta testing the new seed and I think it may have impacted my time capsule I sent a note off to the spple seed programmers - don't really know if they are related issues
I have re-booted but mine is not working!
I've got mine working again by deleting a partial backup that was on the Time Capsule.
I mounted the backup sparsebundle, and then browsed the content and found a filestucture named <timstamp>.inProgress. I removed that and the followed the tip to disconnect described above. That did the trick for me.

What solved it for me was restarting the Time Capsule
