how do I delete doubles of photos, clean up hard drive?

aMy new Pro with 750 gig hard drive is very slow lately. Since I am a new Mac user, how do I get rid of doubles of photos that Iphoto seemed to do on its own?

I have only 13 gig of storage, but is there a defrag program or some other way to find out why computer is slow?

thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I do not know how your photos got doubled, or whether this reflects deeper problems with your hard drive directory structure, or if there is a better way to get rid of the duplicates except for selecting them and trashing them. But, for sure, 13 out of 750 GB is not enough free space and could very well contribute to, if not be the cause of, your slowdown. You have to free up something like 75GB or more of space, I guess. I would also boot into the recovery partition (command-r at startup) and run Disk Utility to verify/repair your disk.
