Flashing cursor issue before windows install

I have a standard early 2008 macbook pro with no upgrades. Ive succesfully installed windows on a partition several times but now everytime the computer reboots to start the install process all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. It has really become very frustrating so if someone can please offer some suggestions i would really appreciate it!
