Jul 17, 2012 1:18 PM in response to Connery36by Kappy,Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Jul 17, 2012 1:44 PM in response to Kappyby Connery36,I followed your instructions. I restarted the pc with the c key held down until the grey apple icon came up and I have to log in. (is that where the problem is?) when the pc is up and running the install disc window opens and I have files with install mac OS x and bundle software, install bundle software only, optional installs, instructions, applications, ect. But nowhere is there a window that has language in it. What do I do?

Jul 17, 2012 1:48 PM in response to Connery36by Kappy,No, there is no login screen when using the installer DVD. You are not getting booted from the installer disc you are using. You are booting your installed system.
Are you using the original installer disc that came with the computer? If not then is the Leopard DVD you have a retail copy (does not have a gray label) or is it an Upgrade copy. Should indicate on the disc's label.

Jul 17, 2012 1:57 PM in response to Connery36by Kappy,Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Note that you do not press down the "C" key until you hear the chime. Hold the key down until you see the spinning gear appear below the Apple logo. Then you can release the key. The computer should boot from the DVD. If it's not then you may have a bad optical drive, a bad or dirty DVD, or some other issue. You can try cleaning the DVD using rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Take care to remove fingerprints and dirt.
