Both Ipod and Itunes will not play audiobooks past 8 mins and 47 seconds!

Both Ipod and Itunes will not play audiobooks past 8 mins and 47 seconds. Nothing I have tried has worked. Some longer pieces of music are also cut short. New purchase audiobooks work but previous purchases do not. Does anyone have and suggestions as to how to resolve this?
