TS1609 downloaded iTunes to a new laptop but it wont open when I click the desktop icon. My security is with McAfee and I ran a system scan and no issues were detected...please help??

I downloaded iTunes to a new laptop but it wont open when I click the desktop icon or when I hook up my iPod (classic). My security is with McAfee and I ran a system scan and no issues were detected...please help??
