Mac OS XYou can try doing a Reset

and a Restore using iTunes (done from shuffle's Summary or Settings tab). However, that (not holding a charge) sounds like a worn out battery.
If it's still under warranty (less than one-year from purchase date unless you extended with AppleCare), you can contact Apple tech support to see about getting a replacement. You can do this at a nearby Apple Store Genius Bar, or by contacting Apple tech support using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.
