Can you use Face Time on a MacBook Pro with an Apple TV?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Not until the new osx I believe. I've used it with the iPad on the tv. It's alright. Since it blows up the screen it's not as clear. The new osx will be here very shortly.

Deff worth the 20$ or so to upgrade. Money well spent. Ya depending on your tv size, FaceTime is ok. On my parents 72 inch is not crystal clear, but I'm my 40" it's pretty good. Internet connection is key to it though. If your far from your router the picture is about 3 seconds behind what appears on my iPad.
It's worth noting that Mirroring will only work with specific, fairly recent, Macs

How can being far from your router result in a 3 second delay, LOL? Radio waves travel at the speed of light. Three seconds would allow light to travel around the entire earth 21 times!
Just saying when your far away from your router the picture is laggy. Connection not so good.

Airplay does not transmit a 'live broadcast' type picture - it uses some form of screen sharing technology requiring compression of the frames to be displayed via Airplay which can lead to lag and with low wifi bandwidth you'll get low refresh rates and reduced quality.
It may work absolutely fine for you, it may not if your wifi connections are rate limiting.

Very true. I've read it's due to the processing required to transcode but not sure what to think. My '08 iMac runs just fine so i'm in no rush to upgrade and content with the fact I can still upgrade the OS

That was my understaning too, that it might be using some proprietary features in newer GPUs. Somewhat surprised that this cannot be achieved in software on well specced machines.
