transferring adat xt tracks into logic exp.

i'm trying to transfer 8 tracks (hopefully simultaneously & in sync) from an alesis adat xt through a motu 828mk2(firewire) into logic exp.

i have the adat sync cable & toslink connecting the adat & motu. then i have a firewire from the motu to the g5. i get a signal in the motu's cue software so i know the signal is making it into the g5.

how do i set up logic to see the incoming audio?

thanks for any help.

If everything makes it into Cue Mix great then just

open up audio hardware and drivers,

select your MOTU interface,

let it launch the Audio engine using MOTU

Set your track inputs,

record enable the tracks

Logic Express handles things a little differently (12 track limitation?). So some configuration in Cue Mix should be in order. I come from Pro and don't see the LE dialogs everyday.

Should work fine, J

i'm pretty sure i did all this, but will double check when i get home. i'm thinking my problem is setting the input in logic. when i record live using the channel 1 of the motu i get a signal immediately in logic.

it just occured to me that in the motu's cue software that i had to scroll past the analog inputs to find the adat inputs w/ associated faders. i'll try going through each input selection in logic to see if i get an adat signal.

thanks.

Yeah, I think LE only allows you to access the 1st 12 channels or record 12 tacks or something. That's why you'd use Cue Mix to reconfigure. As I said, my Express exposure is pretty limited, I use Pro so some of the details are guesswork.

Oh, and record at the sample rate of the ADAT. The MOTU reference will telll you how the I/O is configured by default if Cue Mix routing doesn't make sense. Set your I/O labels after you get a good setup you like.

Cheers.

A few of those things aren't possible within Express.

I'm still yet to find a way to access the adat inputs on my 896HD. I don't think it's possible to reroute them in the Cuemix.

The only thing you can do, is open a new session in GARAGEBAND, ad 8 tracks selecting the relevant inputs and then open this in logic.

Seems funny that GB can do stuff LE can't but oh well, THANKS APPLE!

still no luck. the signals from the motu aren't making it to logic's inputs. this is frustrating because i know the signals are making into the computer. perhaps there's a setup option i'm overlooking that allows one to route the signal from the interface to logic's mixer.

what's the process for setting up a fire wire mixer with logic for recording multiple tracks simultaneously?

i've also tried going analog to the motu & then firewire into the computer. didn't have any luck getting a signal that way either. i'm sure there's a logic setting i'm overlooking.

i couldn't find that feature. i only have click/holding the input button then selecting inputs 1-12, but that doesn't seem to work.
maybe the signals i'm seeing in the motu's cue mix software is just reflecting what's going on inside the motu and not a sign that the signals are making it to the computer. i guess i can figure this out later by selecting the computer's output for 'built in' & running a line to a stereo.

Ok your problem is this. The Analogue inputs are inputs 1-8, then probably the 2 track digital input in my case (on a 896HD) it's the AES inputs, then next is ADAT ins. So given the limit of 12 inputs logic express has, I can't access my adat ins either.

The BEST thing to do, like I said is to open garageband, make a new song, make 8 channels, using the 8 adat inputs then save it, open it in logic, and you're away.
