..I am not able to figure out what exactly is happening, my Mac shutsdown or goes to sleep mode when power adapeter is plugged in.

Maybe you're saying you're surprised the Mac would ever go to sleep when powered by the power adapter.
Go to System Preferences --> Energy Saver and look at the Power Adapter settings. You can change settings for both the computer and the display going to sleep. You can, if you wish, say neither should ever go to sleep when plugged in.
My Mac Air, goes to sleep abruptly when power adapter is plugged in. Help me resolve this issue
