The same thing is happening to mine. The 'x' button on active tabs is disappearing and then not coming back. I have to press contol + click to get a drop down menu in order to close it out. How do I get my Xs back?
On a side note, for some reason command Q won't quit Safari, and when I go to the File menu, Quit Safari is grayed out (not able to click it).
How do I fix these problems?
The tab must be active in order to see the "x".
Command + W closes the active tab.

I am talking about on the active tabs. on the ACTIVE tabs the close tab buttons have disappeared
Ok, but the x disappears after a few seconds of reloading that page.
Try hovering your mouse cursor where the x should be.
