I phoned Apple Care about this very issue on a Macbook Pro 4,1 (c2d 2.4, 15") and was told there was no known issue. Mine has the normal resolution screen and was manufactured 9/08. I couldn't sell the laptop to help fund a new model because of these bars

I phoned Apple Care (3 year) about this very issue on a Macbook Pro 4,1 (c2d 2.4, 15") and was told there was no known issue a month before the 3 years of care expired. My MBP has the normal resolution screen and was manufactured 9/08. I couldn't sell the laptop to help fund a new model because of these bars. Resetting the screen, per the article, does solve the problem. However, tell that to someone looking to buy your MBP.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Penryn
