strange icons appearing

strange icons appearing

yesterday i noticed that strange icons have been appearing on my desktop and random burn folders. example: i save a imovie file to the desktop and instead of the normal icon appearing, one for ical shows instead.

upon opening finder, my external and internal drive icons are nowhere to be found...whats up?

Powermac G5 Dual 2.0 1.5Gb RAM; 20 Cinema; 40Gb iPod Photo; Logic Pro 7.1, Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Login as another User. Is it doing it there? If not, try trashing your Finder preferences once.

User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist

i logged in as another user and its not doing it there. i also tried deleting the file but, no luck.

Well, the problem is in your main User Library then. Drag the whole preference folder to the desktop and reboot. If it works then, you know it's a preference file causing it.
