migration assistant frozen?

I am trying to transfer all the files from a powerbook g4 to a new macbook pro using migration assistant. For the last 10 hours, it says "transferring files to support applications." Less than one minute left. I am thinking this might be frozen. Any help? Please use language that a less than tech savvy person might understand.
