Can I transfer a RAR file from my iPad to my iMac?

If I download a RAR file from the internet using Safari on my iPad, can I transfer it to my iMac? If so, how?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4), printer, scanner, ATVs, external hard drives, USB DAC

Safari doesn't download files from the Internet.

It does (also with RAR files) - it's just that you must use its "Open In" feature to immediately open the downloaded file in another app. For example, GoodReader (along with tons of other top apps) decompresses these files. Also, you'll be later able to access these files from the Documents directory of the target app via iTunes File Sharing.

It's only with huge (over about 200 Mbytes) files that you can't use Open In. To download them, use a Web browser with built-in iTunes File Sharing support for downloaded files. One of the best is iCab Mobile.
