Date & Time Error

I booted my MacBook mid-'09, running OSX 6.8.

In the menu bar, if I click the clock, a menu drops down which tells me the date, and allows me to change some settings. The date is off by six months. The day, year and time are all correct, but the month is wrong.

Now, I went to system preferences to change it back, and the Date & Time panel showed the right time, date, month, and year. The dashboard calendar widget shows the correct month as well.

Is there a way that I can fix this, changing the month from January back to July (and the proceeding months thereafter)?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), I have made a Time Machine backup.
