I had a 2010 Macbook which I recently upgraded from to a new Macbook Pro Retina. Whenever I open up finder now I have a CD drive show up in devices labeled "Remote Disk". However it doesn't seem to exist anywhere but in finder. It doesn't appear in /Volumes or in disk util. I think the reason is because my old Macbook had a CD drive which my new one, for whatever reason, thinks it should as well (I transfered with migration assistant). So my theory is that it's somehow managing to mount something that doesn't exist. Has anyone had any experience with this or, better yet, found a way to fix it?

    That's a standard function of Finder on machines without a built in CD drive.  (MBair, Mac Mini, Retina).

    It's purpose is to find CD drives on other machines on your network that have shared their CD drive for your use.  If another Mac or PC has shared the CD drive, it will be listed there.


    If you don't want it listed you can deactivate in Finder > Preferences > Sidebar tab.
