2012 11 inch MacBook Air has a yellow tinted screen

I have an 11 month old 13 inch MacBook Air, which I love. Loved it so much I got an 11 inch for certain trips. Long story short, got the 11 inch and sat it down next to my 13 inch to transfer over my data and the screen colors were shockingly different. The 13 inch has a beautiful color display.. very cool. The 11 inch has a warn yellowish look to it. Opened photos and thats when you can see a big difference. Looking at photos from my last trip to Italy, I could see so much more colors on the 13 inch than the 11 inch. So I called Apple Care, and of course they took care of me...walked me through a few steps and then declared my MBA DOA and the replacement is on the way. I should have it in a few days, and will post an update.

Hey Carl the dog, cleary you didn't read my posts and are just trolling. I never "loved" "demanded" like your arrogent email implies. Who is the troll?

I bought a computer, the display was dull and did not display colors

The replacement was bright and I thought the issue was resolved, but shortly there after I realized the display was straining my eyes because the screen was washed out.

I'm pretty tired of sending these things back...

I started to do home work and realized that there are many other threads all over the Apple support forums and respected Apple review sites that discuss LG, Samsung, and AOU made LCDs and the issues people are having with all of the above.

My 13 inch MBA has a wonderful display, and when I checked it has a Samsung display. All the computers up at the stores, have samsung displays. All of them have colorful and sharp displays, so why would I accept a lesser experience? Why would I except strained eyes?

You are the one with a problem... so here, look at the pics and then **** off unless you have a real solution:

People like you believe Apple can do no wrong, but they can make mistakes when they are counting on 3rd party vendors to produce things for them that they can not do QC on each part

And every single person at the Apple store from sales to support could see the difference and wondered why my screen was so washed out and hard to see.

Apple Care agrees and is giving me a 3rd replacement. And nobody is happy about this lottery process.

So what is all your talk about fraud and making things up and demanding things that don't exisit???!!! I'm sure 90% of the time you wake up you don't even know your own name. You should be investigated for being an bafoon. How does that make for your logic?

I own everything from a Mac Pro to a MacBook Air and everything in between. I know what works and does not work. I also have really strained eyes from this MBA. None of that is made up

Get off my thread unless you plan to help my situation

I realize this situation is funny for some of you, its your choice if you wish to act childish. I'm a very busy executive with little time to deal with this situation.. I certainly don't have time to fix all the typos from the auto spell in my iPhone. The reason I buy Apple computers is that the OS and hardware are more reliable. The point of my situation is directly related to QC issues that are effecting people. I just got to my cousins wedding for example and her brand new MBA 13 inch had a screen that flickers and had to be replaced. So while I don't expect to find IT savvy people on a MBA thread, it would be nice to find some compassion. Instead, I've only found children more interested in my typos than the actual issue. I'll have my replacement in 14 days when I return home from overseas and will report how things go in the case someone else is experiencing the same issue.

I've had some screen fustrations also. I ordered an 11" MBA recently. It came with the LG screen. The LG screen made my eyes ache. I had to return it.

Some people say they are happy with the LG display and it works just fine for them. Not for me. With the options I selected, the Air cost $1700 dollars (after tax). For that amount of money I want the screen to looks good. Certainly not one that make my eyes ache.

Looking side by side, in the store, at the Samsung vs the LG, there is a HUGE difference.

While talking with a tech at the store, he said that officially the screen difference is something the store employees do not know about. Unofficially they are kinda told not to talk about it. And the quality roulette is something that frustrates them also.

If the Macbook Air could be ordered with a Samsung screen (and Samsung SSD) it would be perfect.

At least Apple has great support.

Thanks for the input, this situation has become pretty annoying for those of us who have multiple macs, have owned macs for a long time, do photography, and or a number of other reasons or combo of reasons. Putting a computer on display with a beautiful screen and then shipping one with a not so beautiful display is not ok for customers or relations with them. I just placed my order for my 3rd MBA and hoping that it's got a good display. I'm not going to obsess over LG, Samsung, etc... maybe all three of them can procude an equal screen, maybe they can not. All I know is that Apple only uses Samsung screens in their stores and that probably means something. And about the SSD, my first MBA had a slow Samsung SSD and this one has a fast one... so who knows what is going on.

I will report back in about 1 week when I get my replacement.

And yes, at least Apple Support is awesome

Hi Ericv, thanks for asking. Unfortunately the 3rd also has a hazzy washed out display with low contrast. I spoke to customer care and they are going to send me a 4th. They totally understand my issue and are handling the case as best as they can. Hopefully I will have the 4th in a few days. Aside from the display, I love this form factor. Hope you have a good weekend

Update: I have my 4th MBA and it also has a hazzy LG display. Returning it as well. The lottery continues. 1st one AUO and dull and yello, 2nd one LG and hazzy and same with 3rd and 4th. Every single MBA up at the Apple stores have crisp and colorful Samsung based displays of course. I don't think they will sell a lot of these if they display them with hazzy washed out LG displays with low contrast. Even my friend who came by today has a Samsung display in his MBA. I know Apple has to have multiple vendors, but they should make more of an effort to make the screens perform within a norrow range of each other.
