Can't boot with tiger cd

I changed my hard drive in my ibook and boot the tiger instal disc in but the screan looks really distorted and hard to read. Also i can't choose my harddrive as the place to instal it on.

iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Install disks come in two types:

Grey - only for the type of Mac they were supplied with
Black - for any compatible Mac

Which do you have?

Which Mac are you trying to install on? and what OS?

How did you change your hard drive?

I had to reformate my harddrive so it could reconise it.
