Q: stream itunes purchased movies to ipad

Forgotten Rebel, you are wrong.  iOS 7 _does_ support streaming iTunes purchases.  For all who actually want to use this feature, please ensure cloud purchases are visible by going to "Settings->iTunes & App Store" and turning on the Videos switch under SHOW ALL.  See the attached image.  Then in the Videos app, your purchases will show up, and you can stream them _without_ downloading them first.

It'll never happen, as Apple would hope that when you next upgrade you'll remember you couldn't stream your paid for movie, so you'll opt for an ipad, iphone, with maximum memory, also the reason sd cards don't exist on either.

I just tried it, and everything paulgazz has said has been correct -- finally, I can stream movies directly to my iPhone and iPad without this Home Sharing business.  (I'm running out of room on my iMac and no longer want to store movies there.)

FYI, I am using an iPhone 5S and an iPad 2 -- both running iOS 7.1

This does not work for me. Ipad 2. iOS 7.1. All settings identical. Regardless of which bottom you press "play" or "cloud download" the films and TV episodes download to ipad. All visible in "Usage".

Sorry to hear that, Mocquery.  I also tried it out on an iPad Mini and a iPhone 5C -- success all around.  But I have enough Apple gear in my household to know that sometimes things don't always "just work" like they're supposed to.   :b

I too have looked forward to the capability of streaming my iTunes library to my iPad/iPhone. I've noticed that not only do you have to turn on show all in Settings -> iTunes & App Store, but also in Videos as well. For some reason it isn't always defaulting to Show All in both when one is turned on. You can check a screen share of how this is done at http://techknowboy.com/streaming-itunes-video-to-ipad/

For what's it's worth, I have done everything said here, and here are my results on the iPad and phone. TV shows stream no problem. When I go to my movies, some stream, and others will not. The same ones everytime do the same thing. I'm using LTE connectivity, and ALL movies are in the cloud and not on my device.

Thanks to all that have replied and provided the right answer! This has helped me as I was about to jump ship to Amazon.

As mentioned by others, you have the choice of downloading your movie from itunes or streaming it to your iphone/ipad/ipod/Apple TV.

Go to Settings and then "Videos". This is a square and blue icon and looks like this:

Select "Show iTunes Purchases".

Now where those of you who are having trouble are going wrong, is you are trying to watch the movie on your iphone and ipad using the itunes app. This won't work. You have to use the "Videos" app which is again,this icon:

Click on the "play" button to stream. Do not click on the "download" icon.

This is way better than movies on Google Play, because those movies can only be streamed. Google Play does not have the option to stream or download. Apple does though!!

I agree. I have streamed certain movies before... But it doesn't always work. I have an iPad mini 4... 64GB so... I can't understand what the big problem is. When I pour 500$ into an iPad... It better be able to stream my movies that I spent $15 each on! I went into the Apple Store and the people clearly had no clue what to do about it. They didn't know anything! So far... I'm feeling kinda underwhelmed with this whole thing.

streaming into iPad used to be possible. I used to do it all the time until an update took place a little while back. Apple did away with that feature for whatever reason mKing it impossible to watch more than 2 HD from a device. This is in their interest in a couple of ways,. First it will mot consumers to upgrade to a bigger device and give incentive to dump all their music and photos to their cloud subscription. For the desktop version of iTunes steaming is possible if you poke around a bit with a right or left click of the mouse. They don't want to make it easy to stream. Sneaky ********. Love hate relationship with them.

Apple did away with streaming iTunes content (paid content) from portable external storage devices when later versions of iOS 8 were introduced and this hasn't changed since.

I have a decent collection of iTunes purchased movies I purchased that I used to be able to stream from my portable Seagate Wifi drive that I can no longer stream my purchased content from, any longer.

Very, VERY upset about this!

Apple only allows Home Sharing streaming from iTunes ( which IS NOT a hidden feature, btw) from any of their computers (which is kinda of moot point, somewhat, when your Mac is a MacBook as you CAN play all of your iTunes movie content on the go from those computers fine and can even home share the movie content, on the go, to an iDevice connected up to a TV with proper adapters and cables.

If you own a desktop computer, home sharing streaming IS limited to your home and home Wifi network. Kinda unfair to Apple desktop computer users.

So, I decided until Apple changes this policy, I've gone back to purchasing actual DVD/BluRay combo discs packages where I can do as I wish with the movie/tv content that I purchase on physical discs.

Apple, at this moment in time, is not a content maker, so has no interest in the size of your device.

They license content for usage. Those licenses come with conditions they impose upon users.

Your collective beef(s) are with the content creators. In this case Apple works for them. Video streaming is a huge revenue source. And controlled.
