I was dragging my iphoto libary for back up to ext. hard drive. I dropped it on desk top by accident.
it is still on dasktop but it looks like it is gone from the pictures folder.
am i in trouble or can i get it back to to pictures folder. if so how?

I tried that and when i did it the library jumped to a misc. folder . so i put it back on the desktop. and then i dragged it to the EHD.
did i mess it up? can i still get it back?

ok this is strange. after the library copied to EDH from desktop I went back to check picture folder.
there is an iphoto there with nothing in it. so i dragged the desktop one over to the picture folder and it was gonna let me move it. only it cautioned me that another iphoto library was there. it wants to know if i want to replace or keep both? what should i do?
Keep both until you sort this out

ok, now in the picture folder i have an iphoto library which now has an iphoto library copy in it with my 53 G in it.
do i dare open iphoto yet?

Drag the iPhoto library copy up one level to the root of the pictures folder and depress the option key, launch iPhoto and select each iPhoto library in turn and see what you have

ok, it is coping now . probable be about 20 minutes this is what i have now. does it look right.

Yes
If you depress the option key and aunch iPhoto and use the select library command you should see all valid iPhoto libraries. Check each one and when you find one that is complete you can delete the others

I want to clean this up now. how do I know which of the two library iphoto is using? i am assuming the most recent one opened?
the library says copy, does that matter?

Yes. You are using the one you most recently used. To be sure option-launch iPhoto and select the library and make note of it. That way you will be sure of which one you are using
