BD-R zero space available, zero space used

I recently connected an LG super multi-blue blu-ray recorder to my iMac via USB. I can burn CD/DVD media fine, as well as BD-RE media. However, when I insert a blank BD-R the OS reports there is no free space.


Trying to burn from the Finder reports that the media does not have enough free space.


The output of drutil status shows there is no free space and no space used:
