Do I need an internet connection to watch a rented movie?
I'm flying overseas and will be losing internet connection once I leave U.S. Do I need to start the movie while I have an internect connection?
?
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

Once you have fully downloaded it and it appears in your Video App, you don't need internet connection to watch it.
I'm not entirely certain that is correct. It would be true of an iPod, but with an iOS device that is normally capable of making a network connection there is that chance that the software in the device will want to authenticate the rental, make sure you haven't tried to turn back time to extend the rental window etc. There have been other threads on this topic which is, I suspect, why the question is being asked. I don't have the answers.

Tt2,
This has been well tested by a third party:

Thanks, though the comments there do seem to suggest that sometimes they just won't play, with no guaranteed workaround to avoid that happening.

🙂 Hi Y'all.
I was just talking to Winston about this yesterday:

Not much further light on why it works sometimes, and not others, though.
(One bit of speculation by me this morning is that some folks might be getting hit with "psuedo-authorisation-alert" issues with damaged rentals. But usually I associate that with music tracks rather than movies ... so still not a great deal of light.)
