How do you record from 2 microphones simultaneously?
I heard that I have to appy an Aggregrate Device, but how do I Logic to use this?

How are the microphones connected to the computer? If you have an audio interface with two inputs, you would just use that without an aggregate device.
If you have two USB microphones, then you would need an aggregate device. Open the Audio MIDI Setup application that is found in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. In the Audio Devices window, click the plus symbol next to "Aggregate Device" in the left pane.
You will then see a list of all available audio devices connected to your computer. Check the box next to the ones that you want to use. Then in Logic, you can choose the Aggregate Device for input on the desired tracks.
Thanks.
One mic is USB, the other connected through an Audio Interface- not sure if Aggregate Device is possible?
Absolutely, that's what aggregate devices are for. As I said, you will see a list of all audio devices connected to your computer, and you can include any of them when you create the aggregate. I am using an aggregate device that consists of two AT2020 USB microphones and an Alesis iO2 USB interface which has two analog microphone inputs.
Works fine for me in Logic and Garageband. Sometimes after a re-boot however, I need to go back to the Audio MIDI application and re-configure though because Logic seems to "forget" one of microphones.
Thanks again.
How do I tell Logic to monitor input using an Aggregate Device? Is it done through the Mixer?
I should add, even though I chose the Aggregate Device as the input in GarageBand (as an experiment), I"m not getting any input.
Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Devices>Coreaudio is where you choose your input and output devices. After you've done that you should be able to choose any of the individual in- and outputs on your channel strips.
The two mics I used to make an Aggregate Device are the Samson C01U (USB) and a Sony ECM 360 routed through a Steinberg CI1 Audio Interface.
GarageBand will receive input from the Steinberg CI1 and the Samson C01U.
Logic will only receive input from the Samson C01U.
Neither will receive input if I assign it to the Aggregate Device.
So, if you aggregate the Steinberg and the Samson and choose that aggregate device as your input device in Logic (forget GB for now), you don't get (at least) a separate Input 1 and Input 2 to choose from on your channel strip?
Are both interfaces "class compliant", meaning that they don't need their own drivers? If so, they should work, although there are devices that simply cannot be aggregated.
Are you now also saying that Logic doesn't even see the Steinberg C1 on its' own? If that is so, either it needs drivers installed, or it is not compatible with your OS version... 😕 ..if Logic cannot even see the Steinberg on it's own, of course it will also not see it when aggregated...
O, and you do know how and where to make an aggregate device? Just to make sure: you need Audio MIDI Setup, it is in Applications>Utilities; when it's opened, make sure you select the Audio Window to create the AggDev.
Hi I'm having a similar situation when using the Alesis iO2. I can make the aggregate device with a rockband logitech usb mic and plug a guitar into the iO2. They both show up in the aggregate device but in logic I can only have either the mic or the guitar armed and playing. No matter what I do I can only use one and it takes up both of my inputs 1 and 2. In logic when selecting the input the only time I can select an aggregate device is when it contains only either the mic or iO2. When both are in the aggregate device the aggregate option will not show up in the logic input menu in the core audio tab. I have investigated other sources and found an ehow on setting up two usb mics but it says "it must only show input and not output". I believe that this may be what is causing the problem as the iO2 shows having 2 inputs and 2 outputs. So is this it? is this why it will not work? if so why? is there any way around it?

I actually solved this problem by just restarting logic after setting up the aggregate device. Same works with garage band. When setting up the aggregate device make sure that the program is closed otherwise you'll have to completly restart the program.
