The screen shows slide to unlock and I am not able to slide to unlock. I tried switching power off. for that also it shows slide to power off and I am not able to slide.

The try the action in the article:
- Reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore via iTunes
- Place the iPod in Recovery mode if necessary to allow the restore
- If you still have the problem after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that indicates a hardware problem an an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
