iCloud unauthorized charge for "upgrade"?

I discovered I'm being charged $40 a year for "upgraded" iCloud storage I never ordered. Apple Support is useless as they say they can't fix iCloud issues refer you to website support which wants to charge for "Express Lane" support to get them to take off a phony charge on iCloud.

Has anyone run into iCloud unathorized "upgrading" and charging and how did you fix it since Apple Support wants to charge $50 to talk to them about stopping their unathorized $40 "upgrade" charge.

Have you checked that you have actually be charged this? The upgrade is, as said, temporary and free. If money has actually been withdrawn from your credit card you could try MobileMe Support (I know you're on iCloud but there is no free support for that unless you happen to have AppleCare, and MobileMe Support have helped some people). Go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ww/ and select your country. In the next window click on a category to expand it, then on a subject to get a link to 'live chat'.

What makes you think you are being charged?

We're you a former MobileMe customer? If so, you would have recieved a complimentary upgrade to 20 GB of storage (nomally $40) for the remaining duration of your old MobileMe account.

You will be downgraded to the free storage plan when the complimentary storage plan expires.

Several charges from Apple in October 2011 when they say I "signed up" for iCloud. I only noticed it when they just killed MobileMe/iDisk and I had to go there to setup up FindMyiPhone and see I'm signed up for $40 year of iCloud storage.

My guess is that was during iCloud rollout when they were trying to get people to drop MobileMe/iDisk and use iCloud until you found out what a disaster iCloud is. If you said yes to opening an iCloud account they automatically billed for $40 upgrade.

Apparently the scam is it is "free" but it automatically defaults to "autopay" so user gets charged for unordered storage.

Probably a great "class action" suit for some enterprising lawyer, I'll just put it down to fool me twice, shame on Apple.

I don't know what else I can say to disavow you of your conspiracy theory.

On my Mac, if I open System Preferences>iCloud click the Manage buttong then click the View Account Button I see that I currently have 20GB ($40.00/year) with a note that says, "You will be downgraded to the free storage play when your 20GB plan ends on 9/30/12".

I had the same question that you have so I called Apple (the didn't charge me for the call" and they explained that as a former MobileMe customer I was given the 20GB plan for free until the date noted.

After that date, I was told, I would revert to the free 5 GB storage plan.
