Image Capture was working now it keeps crashing

I was downloading all my images from my iPhone (as I always do) with Image Capture so i can delete them from my phone and when I got down to 500 images Image Capture started crashing and no matter what I do, it keeps crashing when I try to continue the process. I have restarted my phone, restarted my computer, whats the deal?

I would have upgraded my OS btw, but my disk drive in my MacBook Pro hasn't worked in over 2 years (lame)

MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), Mac OS X (10.5.8), iPhone 4

Hello, first try this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Then before connecting your Phone or trying Image Capture...

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to capture.
