Benefits of Mac

The benefits of Mac have been shown to me by this website, but I want to know the downside. Every systems has its pro and cons (even Windows!!!) so I'd like to hear from experienced MAC users. I run Ubuntu Linux 6.04, which has a mac version, so I am thinking of buying a mac and dualbooting.

Do you mean downsides by what you can't do with Mac OS as opposed to Windows or Linux?

This is quite varied topic. Any "downsides" would be defined by your individual use for the Mac.

I'm a long time Mac user and the only "downsides" would be particular to my own experience. Example; finding a cheap CAD programs (there are only a few) has been a bit of a problem - no big deal. Games are fewer but there are still thousands out there.

I honestly have to say I can't think of any real downsides to the OS itself.

I'm not sure if dual-booting your Mac may be a good idea though. It's safer to emulate with programs like OpenOSX. Of course you'll know more about Ubuntu Linux 6.04 than I.

So dual booting is not recommended? Yeh I really like what apple have done with MAC's, pity their so expensive, as I am a poor student 😉 I would use a MAC for games mostly, as thats the only reason I use Windows with VMware player (emulation - built image with qemu). Everything else works well on Linux, but I don't really need to buy a 3rd Gen Console, so I prefer pc games. I like the idea of widgets (sorta like KDE/GNOME addons I presume?), theirs 1,500 of them! All of them seem a very good addition to help you enjoy your pc!

I've heard about the issue with dual-booting Windows XP when Windows is booted, the fan driver does not exist so no fan cooling happens! Best to research Linux booting to make sure there are no dangerous issues like this.
Read about it here:

I know Macs seem expensive but that's because they come with a lot of what would cost so much more as add-ons to PCs. A new iMac has a built-in camera, pre-loaded software for Photos, Movies, Music... the whole 9 yards. If you want to do video editing and photo albums, the best way to go is with a Mac. Games are getting better too! With the Intel Macs, the possibilities will grow exponentially.
