Launch Java Preferences.app in /Utilities. That will give you the option to install JRE.
My issue is with OSX 10.8.1. Java says JRE is installed, but the cameras still don't work.
DLink told me to call Apple. The Apple Care guy is trying to find the issue, but it looks like there's a difference between 10.8.0 and 10.8.1! He's very helpful, but it may have to be escalated.
Thanks for the feedback. That resolves the JRE issue. As for the camera, I don't own one and besides Apple's support folks, you might pester the dLink ones to ensure you have their latest firmware and software 9if any) and that they've tested it with 10.8.1 for compatibility,
Okay, so I had the same problem with my dLink cameras after following the links on mydLink.com.
Apparently using the download of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the Java site creates a problem. Given a choice, don't do it that way, but if you've already downloaded it and installed it (which I did on two of my three Macs) there's a solution.
If you haven't downloaded JRE as directed by dLink, then go to Spotlight and search for Java. You'll find Java Preferences. When you run it, you will be asked if you want to download JRE. Say yes and then make sure the enable applet box is checked. myDLink.com should run fine and you will see your camera or cameras. Works great.
If you already downloaded JRE from the Java site as directed by the DLink site, you have to do a little work to get rid to do the reinstall.
Apple Care was great in helping me through the problem. The first technical support guy couldn't find the solution, so he turned me over to more senior person who figured out the fix.
good luck.
Then, your issue appears to be that you installed JRE 7 upd 6. Reverting back to Java SE 6 and loading its JRE is the solution. Thanks for the details.
I have had the same issue. I have the D-Link DCS942L security camera. I must say D-Link has rather terrible web access for their cameras on Mac. I would not buy this camera again and would instead use one of the security cameras sold at the Apple stores such as Phillips which are hopefully better tested and updated for compatibility with Apple or simply use an entirely web based product such as Dropcam which eliminates these headaches. Ever since Apple removed Java from Safari this camera has become entirely worthless and even before that it would frequently have difficulty displaying the camera footage due to Java problems with their web interface. On PC it also requires Active X for IE which is banned by many networks. I have tried installing/uninstalling the correct version of Java on Safari as well as Oprah, Chrome muliple times but it never seems to work. However I have been able to get it to work using SecuritySpy software if you configure it on your network and I find this is superior since it avoids the Java Safari issue entirely and provides many other controls (DVR, triggers, better motion capture, FTP) than the D-Link software.
