    Welcome to the Apple Community.

If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.

Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

No, if you delete the old backup, you will not get it back. You would need to create another backup to replace it.

Backup not successful:  I had the same problem.

The solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup.  If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup.  Keep doing that until the backup works.  Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail.  For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.

This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.

pvonk - your "trick" solved my problem. I deleted my previous backup, turned off all apps, made a backup and am now backing up with individual apps turned on. Thanks!

I have deleted my back up, turned off ALL my apps and still getting same message, "Back up could not be completed". Any other suggestions? TIA
