restore volume control to menu bar

restore volume control to menu bar

The volume icon is no longer visible on the task bar. When I go to system preferences/sounds

the bottom is grayed out, and when I click on 'show volume in menu bar', it moves another icon

but nothing appears.

There is no sound, and the 'mute sign' appears when I use the keyboard control.

I did recently change the mouse settings so the right side was active, not sure if this played a

role in this situation.

Thank you for any suggestions to fix this!

What I would do for a test ... Is to create a new user in blue apple > system preferences > accounts

Logon to this account & see if sound control works.

If sound works, you know you have a corrupted preference file.

Belay that, please check if you requested the sound icon to appear.

blue apple in the upper left of screen > system preferences ...

click on sound

Make sure the show volume in the menu bar is checked.

Well, I feel foolish!

After all the suggestions/efforts, I just turned it off and when I restarted it...it worked!

The volume icon had reappeared.

The sound icon has always been on my screen. Didn't know it was an option 'til now.
