Q: home sharing on iPhone 4S

Do I have to be connected to wifi to use home sharing on my iphone, or can I stream over my phone network??

When you want to use home sharing or airplay all devices must be on the same network. So you need to be on wifi that is connected either via wifi or ethernet to your apple tv.
