Q: How do you prevent media from automatically downloading in iTunes when auto downloads are disabled?

Media I have purchased on Apple TV is automatically downloading in my Macbook Pro iTunes, but automatic downloads are disabled.  I have a HD space issue at the moment.  Has anyone experienced this phenomenon and know how to prevent it?
