I would like to transition to iCloud. My current iMac (late 2006 version) has only 1GB. Will adding more memory allow me to download Mountain Lion and use iCloud

I would like to sign up for iCloud. My current iMad (late 2006 version) has 1GB of memory. In order to use iCloud I understand that I have to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion. In order to upgrade to Lion it says that I need 2 GB memory. Can I add that to my iMac?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Sorry, but your Mac doesn't qualify for Mountain Lion. Read here > Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.

But you may be able to upgrade to Lion to use iCloud...

Lion's requirements:

  • Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
  • 2GB of memory
  • OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
  • 7GB of available space

You should be able to upgrade the RAM (memory) in your iMac. If you aren't comfortable doing this yourself, take your Mac to an Apple store or Apple certified repair provider.
