Oh, I had this question too. Your contact has to be regestered with iMessege. I am not sure if the device has to be an apple product, but the phone has to be regestered with iMessege. Hope this helps!!!

What if the person does not have iPhone or iPad. I can send this person a message from my iPhone not from my new iPad mini.
