i'm having that very same problem, with the mx200 ,the spdif has to be connected both in and out, which it is, and then you have to make an audio input somehow in logic and assign it to the correct channel on you interface, not sure how to do this in logic express, i know logic pro has the I/O plugin which makes this very easy but express doesn't have that,

basically i need to setup a hardware effects unit in logic express via spdif

Presonus Firepod has 8 analog I/O and 2 SPDIF I/O for a total of 10 inputs.
Logic Express can handle up tp 12 Inputs so that's not the problem.

Probably, you have setted up Logic to use only 8 I/O.
Check that running Logic Setup Assistant to see if you have 8 or 10 Inputs.

After that you could be able to choose the right channel into the channel strip at the left of the arrange window or in the mixer window.

Again, when you use digital I/O you should sync the digital clock and verify that the frequency is the same for Logic and Firepod.

Let me know how it goes.

cheers
