No, you can only cancel.
Thank you. To clarify, I wish to stop the data plan for 3 months (thus pay no monthly fee) then start it for another period of use. I do not want to cancel the entirety of the Verizon plan forever. In the Settings, does the "cancel later" option accomplish this?
No, if you don't want to be billed, you need to cancel. You can reactivate it later.
This just happened to me and when you pick the cancel, Verizon burns your sim card. Thus starts the trip to ****.
I called Verizon about this because I didn't get why they burned my sim. The pre-paid dept explained that "because I picked 'cancel now', cancel means cancelled". She told me that I would have to go to a Verizon direct store and get a new sim card for $5.00. See iPad Verizon LTE sim issues to get the whole story.
Do not cancel until you research this further. I am still looking into this and I am not happy with Verizon because the advertising about this being easy is misleading.
So, how did you resolve this?
I bought 2 Verizon 4g lte certified sim cards from ebay. When I put the new sim card in, I was able to set up a new account. Just make sure that the description says it can be used in Verizon 4g lte iPad. I haven't as yet suspended it but I will definitely pick the one that says cancel later. As I understand it, this option allows you to suspend it for 5 months without your sim card being deactivated. I doubt that I will wait 5 months, just in case that number is wrong.
It is a very aggravating experience and Verizon and Apple have both done a poor job in explaining what happens if you pick the cancel now option. It isn't as bad with AT&T because it is much easier to get a sim card from them.
Just got off phone with Verizon about on-going auto-pay which I had neglected to notice and cancel. They were unclear about the details until I pushed hard for more info. Yes, if you totally cancel the account, you have to get a new SIM card to reactivate. But - they said if you put the autopay on hold, it will de-activate after four months (with the implication that you need a new SIM card.) Does anyone know if this is true? To keep the SIM card and the phone number, do I have to activate every four months?
Verizon pre-paid rep told me the other day that the 'grace period' is now 3 months. It used to be 5 months. I wish that Verizon would make up it's mind, train their employees, and not change terms without announcing the change. Also, I wish that they would not make it so difficult to get a new Sim card.
On the My Verizon site yesterday, I saw the 4 months stated, but I can't find it now. Does anyone have a link to this policy, in black and white (as opposed to what a rep said?)
