no sound Bose Companion 5

I have a new iMac OS X Lion 10.7.4 desktop computer but get no sound from my Bose Companion 5 speakers. Sound familiar! The speakers are recognised but in System Preferences their is no "balance control" and in Midi their is no "Output Control". Any ideas. Thanks. Alan.
