"abstract fill" -- filling an area whose boundary is made of multiple shapes

Is there any way to do what's in the subject of this post in Keynote: to fill (with a colour) an area that isn't a simple shape? Easydraw calls this "abstract fill" and you can see what I mean here: http://www.eazydraw.com/GraphicConstruction.htm . My Keynote is '08, if that makes a difference (but I'm planning to update soon)
