automatically add to iTunes

I have trawled through several versions of this question but none of them seems to apply to my situation.

It just 'doesn't do what it says on the tin'; anything dragged into this file in my Finder just sits there. I have closed iTunes and opened it again but they are still just sitting there. Are there some parameters that I am supposed to set up or is it just supposed to work 'automatically'? Thank for any help.

I am referring to a folder that has appeared in my Finder window under Favorites with the title "Automatically Add to iTunes". I presume that is an 'alias'? for the folder /Users/RonB3/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music. When I check this using Finder I can find the folder in iTunes/iTunes Music/Automatically Add to iTunes and in that folder are 9 mp3s that I dragged there from my Download folder.

But they are just sitting there. Having used 'search' in iTunes I can't find these files and I don't seem to be able to access them in iTunes itself. I expected them to be physically 'moved' from the folder into iTunes itself but that does not seem to have happened. How do these dragged files become accessible to me in iTunes?

Thanks for you help.
