I'm not getting all email on iPad

Why do I not get all my email on my new iPad that I get on my iMac? and vice versa?

All my email does not come to my iPad but most does come to my iMac.

Yet, sometimes I do get email on my iPad that never shows up on my iMac.

I've had my new iPad for almost 4 months now and have not been able to find anyone to tell me how to correct this.

Very irritating.

Yes, I do sync. This doesn't help.

I'd sure appreciate an answer to this problem.

Is your email account POP or IMAP. If it is POP it is a matter of first come, first served unless the server has been instructed to retain a copy indefinitely or for a fixed number of days. Do a test - send yourself an email from your iPad and pick it up there. Now see if you can access it on your iMac. Repeat the process on your iMac to see what happens. Now send another one but this time go to your other device, pick it up there and return to your sending device to see if you can pick it up there. If not, the settings need changed. Further instructions in due course.

On your iMac,

If you tick this box within Mail Preferences, it will remove the message from the server. That means it you will not receive it on yur iPad.

once it's been received at your iMac. Doesn't mirror the behaviour of an IMAP account, as messages won't be stored on your iPad AND your iMac at the same time.

On the iPad go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap on the email account then tap the advanced button in the account to get the next window and set Delete from Server > Never.

Well, that didn't work. I did had "Remove copy from server..." checked originally on my iMac. I UNchecked it and I got even less email on my iPad....hardly any at all....most of the time none at all. I had it set that way for maybe 24 hours. Yes, I synced my iPad after the change. Once I figured out I wasn't getting much email on iPad but I was getting it on iMac, I went back and checked it again (on my iMac). I synced my iPad again. I turned my iPad off completely, turned it back on, got into email and LOTS of emails came into my iPad.

So I'm back to square one. Getting getting most of my email is preferable to getting almost no email on my iPad.

The question you have to ask your self is what type of email account do you have pop account or imap. Try following steps in this account HT3228 Using a POP account with multiple devices http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3228

Also read the information in the first part of the article. Also take a look at this article too TS2621 iOS: 'Mailbox Locked', account is in use on another device, or prompt to re-enter POP3 password http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2621

The strange thing is, as an example, this morning early I was on my iMac and retrieved my email. Then I turned my iMac OFF. Later in morning, I tried retrieving my email with iPad wifi from another location. None came in. Internet was working as Safari was ok. A few hours later, back home. Still no email came in. I turned iPad off. Turned iMac on again. Lots of email came in...email that had arrived during time it should have come in on my iPad.

That's when I changed my email preferences on iMac back to what they were originally.

How could iMac have retrieved that email first when it wasn't even turned on?

Sorry, guys, none of this has been any help.

I have a POP account and it's set up to provide all my emails for a PC desktop, a laptop and this iPad.

All my emails come in fine on the first two, but on iPad, about 10% do not. Occasionally I can tell that it's just a larger than usual attachment which won't come in, but often, it's an ordinary thing which won't come in for no apparent reason.

This is why my iPad will never be a stand-alone choice for me - I must have reliable Windows (even with its other faults).
