Iphoto stuck updating thumbnails

Just wondered if those suggestions fixed your iphoto issue?

Sorry to re-address this but....after 2 weeks of trying all this stuff over and over I was never able to fix the problem. I thgen used IPLM to "extract" the pictures to a file- all were there- and imported them to my Macbook air with same version of IP-9.3.2 running and all is well with them.....however, when I create a new library on my Main CPU set up to store all this stuff and then import them from the extracted folder...I again get the message that "WARNING-THE DATABASE IS FULL AND CANNOT IMPORT THE PHOTO'S!!!

What is going on????? I have some IP libraries from older stuff that open fine on this mac/ip combo but nothing with the 9000 pictures I had had in there for so long until that dam update in early July.

No-one at mac genious has a clue whats wrong either but my drive is anything but full and all else is working perfect!

Any ideas from you or anyone would be helpful.

How much free space do yu have on your hard drive

What Mac do you have and what system and iPhoto versions are you using? Ditto on the free space on your boot drive.

500gb free on a 1 TB drive

MacPro-Quad core-2011..10.7.2 with Iphoto 9.3.2

I have downloaded Mountain lion but didnt want to install it until this was fixed. I am, however running 10.8 on my Macbook air - like I said - extracting the photo's from my obviously screwed up system, they all were there and loaded onto my air which has 1/4 the free drive space b/c its an SSD.

I also have 10.6 on another drive and tried to open it with an older version of iphoto on 10.6 but it wont let me b/c Iphoto 9.3.2 changes things and now isnt backward compatable.

here's another interesting tidbit, my wife just called and told me the import to the laptop stopped and have the same "insufficient Disk Space" but only after downloading over 3000 pictures.

Iphoto on my MacPro wont import any or stops halfway but then the "key" photos on the screen turn on and off like a programmed christmas trree.

This now makes me think the database is corrupted by a file somewhere but how do find it.

Time machine backup didnt fix it either when I went a week prior to this all starting for the Restore.

SOOO, is there some kind of import limit amount to iphoto at any time??

my database is only 40gb / about 9000 photos

Is that your laptop or Mac Pro?

the last post was now my laptop

when I left this am it was inporting them from my MacPro over my network and had already loaded almost 3000 photos.

Am home now and warning is there and not a single photo in iphoto

If you have any ideas please let me know.

This is currently happening to me and I am livid. I switched to Apple about 3 years ago and could pretty much be their top sales representative — I am SOLD on Apple and love everything about it, except this. Ever since I spent the $20 to get mountain lion on my 2-year-old laptop, I have seen the the rainbow wheel of death more often that I can even BEGIN to explain (about 1/5 of the time I spend using it), my iPhoto is literally unfunctionable, and I am beyond annoyed (to the point I want to throw it out the window). I know people who have 10-year-old Macs that run better than mine — I have done nothing unusual to my computer (I'm a college student), use very little space on my hard drive, I always close out apps, what am I doing WRONG?! And how can I get all my pictures? This is literally a nightmare, someone please help me.

Is the spining rainbow in iPhoto only? Or throughout the OS?

I am running 10.7.4 OSX with iPhoto 8 Version 7.1.5 (378) with multiple libraries (main one has 17K images). Apple Store diagnosed an issue with SD card download and concluded that I had an iPhoto issue to which he recommended a full rebuild (CMD-Option - check all). Had a full 250GB hard drive and tried to rebuild the library (checked all options) before upgrading the hard drive to 1TB. Pretty sure it was successful in all but the thumbnail rebuilds. When rebuilding the Thumbnails it kept saying file not found- when i searched for each filename, 6+ versions of the same filename were found. 40 or so times I just picked the first one when I realized I was not sure I was picking the right one given that they were all not duplicates. I had to force quit out of this process and did not have the drive space to restore to the time prior to that force quit. Upgraded to a 1TB HD and have run all the repair options except the small and full thumbnail rebuilds. I have a MyBookLive doing wireless backups but i can no longer see the backups from my old HD.

Am i supposed to retry the thumbnail rebuild processes now that each of the other processes (library rebuild, permissions, etc.) all ran successfully? What is the next step if I still get that same 'file not found' error and how do I get out if it keeps asking for thousands/hundreds of photos? How do I know when I am in the clear? Will iphoto Library Manager be the right move and eliminate the thumbnail uncertainty?

All I want to do is know that all photos on my Mac are in a Library and that the thumbnails arent messed up...

Had a full 250GB hard drive

Using (or rebuilding) on an overfull drive has likely caused the database to be corrupted.

I would now

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
